Appreciate your good comments, Deb. Yes, the more I work in this field, the more convinced I become that it’s that last note that completely justifies what we do: when people realize that KM/knowledge services has financial implications (well, both financial and other kinds of resources as well, like staff time etc.), knowledge value is recognized, and that’s the foundation of all organizational success (effectiveness).

Dear Guy,
You've hit the nail on the head. Even when I talk to friends and family not in the info world, they totally get what KM is. So many organizations have come to realize that they just cannot keep up with the wealth of information, no matter the format, they create. Making that information refindable and reusable makes sense to them as they know not finding it or reinventing it costs a lot of money and time.

Thanks for sharing! Deb

Thanks for the kind reply. There’s so much going on in KM/knowledge services now, and we’re lucky to be part of it, aren’t we?

Hello all,

As usual, it is wonderful to see Guy's erudite and informed writing on Knowledge Management sector. I'm glad that Guy is having some time in Africa, as when I traveled there for an extended time in the past, I somehow experienced new insights as a result of being in a completely different environment in the southern hemisphere. Best Regards to those in the KM community, James Madigan, MSLS, MAM., PMP
